InstantUpgrade: Automatische Aktualisierungen für WordPress

InstantUpgrade ist ein WordPress-Plugin, das auf Knopfdruck WordPress-Installationen aktualisiert. Man kann auf die neueste WordPress-Version oder auf jede andere aktualisieren. Das Plugin lädt die gewünschte WordPress-Version runter, entpackt sie, löscht die alten WP-Dateien und installiert die neuen. Anschließend wird das Upgrade-Script ausgeführt. Für all das werden keine besonderen PHP-Erweiterungen etc. benötigt, sondern InstantUpgrade bringt alle nötigen Werkzeuge selbst mit.

Besonders interessant ist das Plugin, wenn man WordPress für einen Kunden oder Bekannten installiert hat, der keine Ahnung von FTP, PHP und MySQL hat. Aber auch alle anderen werden einfache und direkte Upgrades sicher zu schützen wissen.

Dokumentation und Downloads gibt es auf der InstantUpgrade-Seite (leider nur auf englisch). Viel Spaß beim Ausprobieren! Feedback ist ausdrücklich erwünscht.

    fehlt nur noch, das die plugins auch auf dem neuesten stand gehalten werden…

    Hmm, I’ll have to test this plugin out myself to see if it’s something I’ll recommend. This would definitely be a perfect plugin for some of my clients since they’re too nervous to update wordpress on their own. =)

    Hört sich nach dem richtigen Plugin für mich an. Allerdings habe ich einige Fragen:
    1. Was ist mit Problemen zwischen den unterschiedlichen (älteren) Upgrades. Werden die Fehler - die in den neuesten Upgrades behoben sind autoamtisch für Zwischenversionen erkannt - oder muss ich, wenn ich nicht (!) auf die neueste WP-Version aktualisieren will, auch die Geschichte der Fehlerbehebung mitmachen?
    2. Ich trage mich seit Wochen mit dem Gedanken mein WP 2.03 auf die aktuelle deutsche (!) Version zu erneuern. Gibt es einschlägig bekannte Probleme - oder wäre es eine gute Idee, dieses Plugin zu benutzen. und schliesslich
    3. Berücksichtigt das Plugin auch die Sprachversionen?
    Besten Dank für angemessene Auskunst. Ich werde es sehr zu schätzen wissen. ;) )

    Nein, man kann auch Versionen überspringen. Die Upgrade-Prozedur, die die jeweils neueste WP-Version mitbringt, regelt das — unabhängig von der gewählten Upgrade-Methode.

    Wenn Du noch auf 2.0.3 bist, dann wird es langsam Zeit. ;)

    Die DE-Version wird von dem Plugin grundsätzlich nicht unterstützt, aber wirf mal einen Blick auf dem Kommentar von “Jott”; prinzipiell kann man auch die deutsche Version verwenden, zumindest, wenn man auf das neueste WP aktualisieren möchte.

    3. Berücksichtigt das Plugin auch die Sprachversionen?

    Ja, Sprachdateien werden erhalten.

    Eine Frage noch - all die files, die ich via FTP auf 777 modus änderte, müssen die nach jedem Update wieder “zugemacht” werden? -

    Nein, da der Server die alten löscht und die neuen mit neuen Rechten einfügt, muss man das nicht machen. Das steht aber auch in der Anleitung.

    Sounds like one of the must have plugins for any wordpress user. But I have one question. Please pardon me if it is too naive. Suppose I upgrade using the plugin, then I should go back to all the files where I made any changes - like inserting ads, inserting other plugin scripts or in short every thing that I changed to get my site to look as it looks now… Right? If somebody would answer that it would be great. I want to use this plugin but don’t want o lose all the changes that I made to my files.

    If you have changed the files in wp-admin/ or wp-includes/, they would be lost indeed. It is definitely no good idea to edit these files, because virtually everything in WordPress can be solved with plugins. However, I consider making available a opportunity to preserve such files in on of the next releases, even though I strongly discourage this.

    das klingt ja alles mehr als gut. Hast Du Informationen darüber, ob man mit IU auch von wirklich älteren WP-Versionen upgraden kann? Mit “wirklich älter” meine ich zB. WP 1.2.

    #edit: man sollte vor dem Fragen alles lesen… So wie es aussieht, muß zunächst von Hand auf, ja, mindestens welche Version aktualisiert werden?

    okg, es muss eine Version der 2.x-Serie sein; mit 1.5 funktioniert es (Rückmeldungen zufolge) nicht.

    Vitaly, no this plugin does unfortunately not work with WPµ. But I guess it should be not too hard to adapt it. If you want, you can take the source (it’s GPLed) and build a µ version from it.

    I did not know there is an instant upgrade for wordpress. I am currently using version 2.2. I did not know how to install wordpress also because there is a one click installation service provided by my hosting. Your post will definitely help me to upgrade to a newer version since wordpress keep coming out new version every 6 months.

    Can you please help, I am in desperate need.
    I tried installing your plugin and lost my entire site (www.saltypaws.co.uk).

    I followed your directions with doing a backup with your other plugin, then uploads and changing permissions, when I clicked on the update button I got the error messages of permissions fails, BUT the major problem is my wp-contents and wp-adin folders completely dissappeared, do you have any idea what happened? Any idea how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry not my wp-contents but my wp-admin and wp-includes folder.

    I tried uploading new folders but now I get the following error:
    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: stripos() in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\saltypaws.co.uk\httpdocs\wp-includes\query.php on line 37

    Any idea?

    I don’t know *what* you’ve uploaded, but WordPress doesn’t use the function stripos(). The error has nothing to do with InstantUpgrade, it rather says that you’re using a function which is not available in your PHP version.
